My mapping challenges

For this past term in inquiry we have been learning about the countries in Asia (Thailand, China, Japan, India). In this DLO (Digital Learning Object) it has all the mapping challenges I have done in all my classes.  If you want to see more about these countries, click on this slide.

Our reading activity + game

For a few weeks we have been talking about how bad the smog in China is. We had a brainstorm and wrote down on the whiteboard why pollution is bad and what would be the consequences if the Chinese government keeps ignoring this situation. In this Google slide, I have put down our Prior, New, and Synthesized knowledge from my reading group into this slide. If you would like to see more, click on this slide. If you want to see my buddy's website, click Ma'ata.

China

Last month I was learning about China for my inquiry with Mrs. Anderson. We learnt where was China compared to New Zealand, the languages they speak over there, Chinese New Year and much more. If you want to find out more, click on this slide.

Smog In China

Yesterday we read an article about the smog in China. After we read each text, we had to highlight a part of that text and put S-T (Self to Text, something you read that sounds like one of your life experiences), T-T (Something you read that sounds similar to something else you have read), or T-W ( Something you have read that is happening in the world now). Most of the things I highlighted were T-S. The aim of this task was to find thing that relate to other things that I've read, seen, or that has happened in the world.

Finding China

Today my reading group (Pukeko) and I read a story called " Finding China". It was about a girl who was half Chinese that lived in Dunedin. Her dads friend gave an idea that she should go to school in Shanghi, so when she was 11 years old, she flew by herself all the way to China, Shanghi. She then started a boarding school called Ping He Bilingual school. After we read the story our group went to a table and graphed the similarity's and differences between Ping-He school and our school (Panmure Bridge School). This is all our synthesized knowledge we came up with.

Language Challenge

For inquiry this morning, my buddy Nazanin and I made a Chinese mandarin DLO. On this DLO it shows how to speak basic Chinese mandarin ( hello, goodbye, and thank you ). We also have a link to a website and an expert saying these greetings and other words.  In the top right corner we also have the Chinese flag.

Chinese population

This reading DLO I have made is about a journal we read about the Chinese population called " Millions and millions of people". Chinese have the rule that every couple is only allowed 1 child. We also took a look at the Chinese family tree and what they looked like. In this slide is also my knowledge that I synthesized about this story. Synthesize means taking the knowledge you already know about something, finding our some new knowledge about that, and then looking at it in a different way to form a new understanding.
