Today for reading our teacher Mrs Linka gave us these games to practising our reading skills we have been learning throughout the year (inferring, synthesising, Questioning, etc). We had to chose three games to play. The 1st game I played was Detective, which is where you are inferring. The second game was practising making connections with the text we read. While the 3rd game I played was just putting sentences together to make sense.
This blog is a record of my learning from Panmure Bridge Primary School through to Tamaki College.

Destroy the Ghost
Today me and my buddy Afu played a typing game which helps you type faster. All you have to do is type in the words that is closest to your screen and when you have finished typing in your word, you press enter and you will either kill the ghost or the ghost will scratch you and you will lose 1 life. My highest score was 4450, but Afu's score was higher.

Maths - Thinking Block Addition
Today in maths we had a game that we were asked to play called Thinking Blocks Addition. In a purple box in the top of the screen you are asked a word problem, you are taken step by step to solve the problem using blocks and boxes. This helps with your addition and your understanding of word problems. Our learning intention was solving word problems.

Cyber Smart Game -
Two weeks ago me and my partner Sa Kae were playing the Cyber Smart game. In this task we used one of the google draw items called "Voice typing". In the black writing is what we were suppose to say through the microphone, and in the red writing is the things that the microphone typed in according to what it heard. Also, in the highlighted sections are either misspelt words or words that weren't meant to be in the sentence

Our class doing Quizizz
Today our whole class were doing Quizizz. We had lots of fun challenging each other in our mixed times tables, addition and takeaways. We were set into partners, so my partner was SaKae. Our greatest score was coming second in the mixed times tables against 45 other year 7 and 8's. But then later we came 6th and 17th. This is a very exciting way to practise our basic facts and to answer them faster. Plus, the more we play, the more we improve.

Who wants to be a millionaire/ hundredaire
Today for maths I played a place value game called "Who wants to be a hundredaire" This includes finding the number value after the decimal point (eg: In 456.935 which number is in the thousandths column?). This is a good game for those who needs help with their place valuing.
Hit the button
Today again we played hit the button. But this time we did division facts, mixed! I wasn't too good so I need more practise. Hopefully I can get a better score tomorrow or the next day.

Hit the button - Times tables
Today for maths I played Hit the button again. This time I got 21 out of 22. I think I could have gotten a higher score if I pushed myself to go faster. Hopefully next time I could improve. I recommend this site to anyone who needs help with their times tables. Even if you know all of them up to twelve.

Hit the button
Today I have been playing hit the button. It is a very cool game to help you with your times tables, halves, doubles, division facts, even square numbers. But today I did mixed up times tables and I got 30 out of 30! I recommend this game for people yr 5 - 8. But I think I can do better next time. The bottom image was for square numbers.

Football Math
Today for maths I was playing a decimal place value game called Football Math. You have to chuck the football to you team member. If your team member receives the ball, you will be given a decimal place value question, for example " 209.897 has which digit in the thousandths column?" That is when you choose your answer. If you get it right three times in a row, you get bonus points.

Quizizz
Today our teacher got our whole class to go on Quizizz. In this maths game, we were recalling our times table as fast as we could. Our whole class participated. We only had 10 second to answer our 5 times table questions. When we looked at our score, it shows us how much we need to work on for our times tables.

Our reading activity + game
For a few weeks we have been talking about how bad the smog in China is. We had a brainstorm and wrote down on the whiteboard why pollution is bad and what would be the consequences if the Chinese government keeps ignoring this situation. In this Google slide, I have put down our Prior, New, and Synthesized knowledge from my reading group into this slide. If you would like to see more, click on this slide. If you want to see my buddy's website, click Ma'ata.

Slingshot To Understanding

Today for reading we played a game called Slingshot to understanding . In this game, we had to read a short essay about the smog in China. Then we compared it to either a video, a flyer, a recipe, or a story that was similar in a way to the essay. When we have chosen and typed down our answer, we either make a strong, weak, or distracting connection (you'll find out what I mean if you decide to play the game). If you have a strong one, you get to jump to a far building. If you got a weak one you only got to jump to the buildings closest to you. But you wouldn't jump if you got a distracting one. What you are learning through this game is to make connections with the information about this topic and other prior knowledge you have about this topic. The challenge in the game is to get rid of all the smog in the city.

E - Ako maths multiplication and division

E-ako maths: fives and tens
Today I have done my e-ako maths again. In this task I have been learning about skip counting in 5's and how to figure out how to use it in questions like these. This is the part I got up to. At this part I had to tick the statements that were true about this spelling list.
