Yesterday and today we have been solving multiplication problems on the way to school ( not in REAL life but it said in a book). Our learning intention was solving multiplication problems in everyday contexts. We had to read word problems like the one above and find out what the equation was inside that word problem. For example, some of them might has a multiplication equation or a division question.
This blog is a record of my learning from Panmure Bridge Primary School through to Tamaki College.

Maths
This week my maths group has been doing problem solving. Our topic for problem solving were hot dogs and hot dog buns. We watched a video of a man buying some hot dogs and hot dog buns. He wanted to buy a packet of 8 hot dogs and a packet of 8 hot dog buns to feed 8 people, but the problem was there were only hot dog bun packets of 12 and 16. So the man started tearing the packets of hot dog buns and took 8 buns out of the packet of 12. Later after the video, we started solving the man's problem. Our teacher Ms Naicker gave us the same problem but with different numbers to work on. For example, I have to feed 108 people. I can only use hot dog packs of 4, 3, 8 and 6 and hot dog bun packs of 12, 8, 6, and 16. Eventually I solved the problem. One way I used 9 packs of 12 hot dog buns to make 108 hit dog buns and they brought 10 packs of 4 hot dogs, 10 packs of 6 hot dogs, and 1 pack of 8 hot dogs to make 108 hot dogs. My strategy was approved by my teacher, Ms Naicker.

Adding decimals
Today I have made a DLO on how to add decimal fractions. Our learning intention was adding with decimal fractions. This also gives tips on what to do when you add decimals together. Like to add the tenths first, then you add the ones. But make sure the decimal points are in line.

Today for maths I played E ako maths again. On this page, I had to explain some of the ways I got the answers to this question. Like skip counting, multiplication, division, and many other ways.

Doubling and halving
This is another maths DLO I have made to work out times tables like these. We were learning to use doubling and halving to solve multiplication problems. This trick can help you solve any equation.

Maths strategy for 6, 7 and 8 times table
Our learning intention yesterday and today was how to use the 5 times tables to work out the 6,7, and 8 times tables. We learnt this trick yesterday with our maths teacher. I didn't get it at first but then later it started to get easier.Remember this works only with the 6, 7, and 8 times table as I showed on my DLO that I made.

Math Strategy - Equivalent Fractions
This is a maths DLO I have made this term for a math can-do. This math can-do is making a DLO (Digital, Learning, Object) and explaining a maths strategy that would help others. Here is my DLO on my maths strategy that I have made by myself.
