Spelling #3

This is once again another spelling game. Although this time our word starter was " Un". These colourful circles had a letter in them, and as the the letters bounce around, you have to try and catch them and spell the word that will appear on the left side. Don't click the wrong letter though.

Writing a Narrative

I have made a DLO on tips when writing a narrative story. This slide can help you plan your story, show you how to set the mood in your story, whether the story is adventurous, scary, exciting, or anything. This DLO is also suppose to help people know the structure of a narrative story using TOPES.

Math Strategy - Equivalent Fractions

This is a maths DLO I have made this term for a math can-do. This math can-do is making a DLO (Digital, Learning, Object) and explaining a maths strategy that would help others. Here is my DLO on my maths strategy that I have made by myself.

ANZAC poem

We have been learning about the meaning of an ANZAC poem. This poem my partner Jorja and I worked on is about the spirit of the ANZAC soldiers when they prepared for battle, fought on the Flanders  field, and died so that we can live this future today. The main idea of this poem is the spirit of the soldiers. We both found this out by looking at the first and last sentence in this poem. The title also gave us a clue about the main idea.

Mathletics

Today for maths we did a challenge called mathletics.
1.
Our maths teacher lead us outside onto the court. She had a whiteboard and drew out 8 long rectangles with 10 squares inside. She also had 8 bags with maths questions inside ( because there were 8 pairs). These questions were based on maths topics that we have been learning throughout the term ( Place value, Number sequences, rounding up numbers ).
2.
We all sat in one line across the court. When our teacher yelled go, my buddy Silivia ran to the end of the court and back to me while I would try to figure out the question.
3.
When I was finished I would give it to Silivia and she would run again, but when she is heading back, she would give it to the teacher so she could mark it. If the teacher said YES, then Silivia would come back with another maths question and swap over, but if she said TRY AGAIN, we try again.
4.
The aim of the game is to make you bag empty as quick as you can. The first 3 pairs finished would get a prize.
PS. Sorry, we didn't get any pictures.

Narrative writing story

Tornado: Into the storm
“ Whoosh whoosh SNAP” as they trees fell. Jackson and Ethan were skating down the highway, heading to the woods. Suddenly, they saw more and more trees falling on each other like dominoes, as the wind harshly swooshed past them.
Jackson and Ethan kept on skating, until they finally see the tornado spinning round and round. This could kill them, and the rest of Texas. But will the whole town believe them?.
Ethan sprints to the town with Jackson running just behind him. Both of them yelled to everyone that there was a tornado coming, but everyone just laughed at them. They didn't when the trees crashed onto their houses.
Both Jackson and Ethan guided everybody into the emergency tunnel underground. Everyone safely managed to fit underground. As the storm passed a day later, the town was destroyed. Now all the adults, even the Mayor, know that children don’t lie all the time.

Our learning intention today was to write a narrative story. I used my mind map I made to help me form the narrative plan into a narrative story. I also used DRAFT ( Delete, Re range, Add, Fix, and Talk). This helped me find words that might have been in the wrong places, words that have been used too many times, sentences that didn't make sense, and lots of other things. If you want to know a bit more about DRAFT click here.

Elephant Toothpaste Experiment

Last week we had Ms Davis and Ms Dudding show us an experiment called " Elephant Toothpaste ". They told us about a physical reaction and a chemical reaction. Physical reaction means the experiment is reversible, so it can change back, for example water can freeze and melt back to water. Then a chemical reaction is when it is changed, it is irreversible. Like a cake, by the time you have mixed and baked the cake, it won't change back into the way it was. As we watched the elephant toothpaste, we found out it didn't reverse back, this experiment was a chemical reaction.

Working at Tech

This is Mahdia and I on our computers at Tech.  We were collaging our photos from the Tech we have been doing for the past term. The website we were using was  Picmonkey. You can click the link and it will take you there.

Statue of Liberty

For the last week of homework this term we research the statue of Liberty. I have learnt quite a few things from researching this. Did you know that you can walk up to the statue of Liberty's crown! I didn't. You can find out more about the statue of Liberty by checking out this slide my partner Mia and I made.

Design Progress

Today we have made our collage of our progress so far. The first thing we did was plan out ideas of what to draw for someone and make a design brief of who the person was and what they liked. Also, we searched up different kinds of jewellery and made a DLO of them. After that, we folded our paper into 6, draw our concept idea and developed/ changed them a bit.  Later we looked at the positives and the improvements of our concept ideas. Now so far we made one of our Tinkercad designs with plasticine, like I made my flower into a plasticine shape. That is what we have done so far at Tech.

Rounding numbers

This is a maths task I had. Our learning intention was how to round up numbers up to 10, 100, and 1,000.  Our task here was we had to answer the maths questions, then when we had the answer we had to find the letter that belonged to the number above ( which does not show on this sheet).  When we found the letter, we would put it on the letter side. All these letters spell out a word, so we have to unscramble them and figure out the secret message, which is at the bottom. This task really helped me with rounding numbers, even with decimals.

iFaketext Bus Strike

This is another DLO I did about the bus strike, but this time my buddy was Mia and we formed the bus strike into conversations on iFaketext.  We were thinking about the people who were in the bus strike and thought about the other points of view different people had when this current event happened. We use four different groups, the bus drivers, the public, the bus company, and the police officers.  It is important that you think about everybody's provocation, not just one persons and go with it because each bias ( point of view) will be different to other peoples.

Current event: Bus Strike

This is an activity about the Auckland bus strikes two months ago. Miss Linda,  Sa Kae and I were finding and summarising information from this current event. This is the information that we found through some articles. we wrote the 5 w's ( Who what when where why/how) The bus drivers showed provocation to give a message saying they want more payment from their work.

Bus Stop Rotation

The wind howled through the window. The girl sat huddling her knees waiting for the storm to be over.  She was by herself, all alone. Her mother swept away into the hurricane. As tears dropped down her face,a cat pounced through the door. It was Ginger, the cat next door. She quickly grabbed him and hugged him like there was no tomorrow.

This was one of our quick write stories my buddy Mia and I made. Our learning intention was to understand how our choice of words create the mood of the story. We walked around the class room heading to every bus stop. Each bus stop we walked to had a piece of paper that had a sentence we had to start our story with. Next Mia and I had to come up with 5 more sentences in 5 minutes ( but on this one we did 6).

Spelling auto words #2

This is another one of my spelling games I played. This is like the last "auto" word game I played, but you have to listen to the speaker, they will say the word, and you have to spell the word ( there is also a sentence above that shows how the word is used. ) This helps with specific words that use the word "auto".

Planning our narrative story

This is a story I made with my buddy Mia for our writing. We were learning to write a plan for a narrative story. We used TOPES ( Title, Orientation, Problem, Explanation, Solution) to help us make our plan for our story. After we finished, we formed our plan into a mind map. This is just one of our pans for a narrative story that I have posted.

Tech graphics: 3D printing design

At tech in the 3D printing class, we made a plan for what kind of jewellery we would make for our person. I was trying to make a K for my cousins key chain and a  flower for my mum. I chose a K for my cousin because that is the start of her name, and I did a flower for my mum because she likes pacific flowers, or any kind.

Spelling auto words

This is a spelling game I played last week. The aim of the game is you have a list of words on the side. You have to spell those words with the letters that are bouncing, but it's tricky because they are bouncing everywhere so you have to catch them. This helps spell words with "auto" in it. Since the picture is blurry, I got 192 for my score.

Our science slide

This is my groups slide about how to be a scientist. I am in group 3. We have been learning about what scientist need to do and ask. So if we get stuck, we can look at this.

stretching sentences

This is Junes and mines stretching sentences. Our teacher gave us a sentence starter and the we had to make a story out of it. Our sentence starter was " This would never had happened if she wasn't late."

Jewelry planning

This is one of my google drawings. My tech teacher Mrs. Ferguson told all us 8's year to make a small DLO on choices of what we could make for our jewelry. These are some of the choices of what I might make.

White Bait

This was one of my reading tasks for Mrs. Anderson's group. We had to read this story about white bait, then type and show the life cycle of a white bait. On this DLO you will see the life cycle, and a description of what a white bait is. Our learning intention was to identify the authors purpose and to find information and make connections to the text.

Exemplar 1

This was one of my tasks I did with Mrs. Anderson for reading. We read two stories and chose one to work on. The story I chose and read first is in black, and the words I added in are in grey. We had to try and keep the pace of the story. We were also trying to use punctuation like speech marks and commas.

Our Culture graph

This is one of my graphs Mishaan and I made. We were finding out which culture was more popular and why. To be honest, we both made this slide in February on the 1st or 2nd week of school, but I forgot all about this graph. But I did help with this graph though. Our learning Intention was how to carry out a statistical inquiry.

Our school flag vote

This is my PBS flag DLO. Our class were analysing how many people chose the new flag and the current flag, explained our results and why we got them. My teacher taught some of our class how to make a bar chart about what the flag votes were at school. These votes were very similar to the real votes the whole country did. Even though John Key spent all that money on a flag, lots of people all over the country must be glad the current flag stays.

Cyber Smart

This is my slide on how to be Cyber Smart. This task was for one of my care awards, it was called " Create a DLO on how to stand up to bullies, or how to be Cyber Smart." I picked this activity so it would help people everywhere who need more understanding about what could happen on social media with the help of this slide (and other cyber smart slides my class has made.) Hope this helps.
